The following are easy ideas to help you save money when you go to the grocery store and when you are at home cooking.

Be creative
If you forgot or forget something at the store think about what else you might be able to use. For example, I have forgotten to grab butter (a staple item) and potato soup was on the menu for the night. I substituted olive oil for butter that night and it worked great!

Use leftovers
For example, if you have stuff left over from week one, use it the next. Use up all salad stuff and things that can go bad, even if you have to create a new meal that is not on your meal plan. Wasted food = wasted money.

Be a smart shopper!
I think that often people are not prepared when they do go grocery shopping and end up spending more money than they intended to on food that is not healthy for them. Remember the stuff from the meal plan information (below)!

First, do the preparation work at home. Look at the local ads before you go. Make meal plans according to the ads from that week.

Second, be flexible! Recently, while at a grocery store, I saw a special on good quality split chicken breast. They were $1.48/lb. which was a savings of $1.41/lb. off what they normally cost. When I saw them, I had never bought split chicken breast and was not sure of the differences when comparing them to regular chicken breast. So, I asked the guy behind the meat counter. He explained that there was a small bone in the back of the meat that could easily be cut or picked out. I was sold! After cooking the meat to make the meals, I think I actually like this cheaper meat better! It was juicier than my normally boiled chicken breasts come out.

Third, do not go to the shops hungry! Why does it seem that you rush off to the grocery store and once there, while shopping for food, you suddenly realize that you are very hungry? This almost guarantees that you will spend money on food that you do not need and is most likely not healthy for you.

Be prepared
When you leave to go shopping, pick a time where you do not feel rushed. This will better help you to stick to your list and to eating better foods!

Have staples on hand
Here is a list of things to have on hand for cooking and baking. These are the items I have found most helpful. Look through the list and decide what items your family uses, then add and subtract items as it makes sense for you and your family.

One such artist, Roger Dean, is world-famous for his legendary album cover designs and concepts. He is best known for his partnership with the progressive rock band Yes and his album covers are peerless.
Dean was born in Ashford, Kent, England in 1944 and spent much of his childhood moving around the world (he has lived in Cyprus, Greece and Hong Kong) with his British army father. The family returned to England in 1957 where Dean enrolled in the Canterbury School of Art and earned a National Diploma of Design. In 1968, he graduated from the Royal College of Art. Dean preferred to distinguish between design and the reworking of an existing model or design or inventing and the making of something new, a concept that would help him later on with his work.

In fact, one of his inventions was the sea urchin chair, a foam chair which, though appearing to be spherical, would conform to the person sitting in it; who could obtain a seated position of varying angles. The uniquely designed chair was featured in the film A Clockwork Orange and Dean was commissioned to design a landscape of similar seating for Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club.

It was around this time that Dean would embark on the now famous art design work that he is best known for, designing and painting unique album covers for various rock bands. His first album cover was for a band called Gun. In 1971, Dean designed the cover for the first Osibisa LP (an African/Caribbean band) and this cover attracted a lot of attention and interest in his work. In fact, later that year, Dean formed the partnership that he is most recognized for, the album cover art for the band Yes (and along with his brother Martyn, designed the stage set for the band as well).

As Yes guitarist Steve Howe explains, There is a pretty tight bond between our sound and Rogers art. Deans art is characterized by dreamy, space-like landscapes, floating islands and fantasy habitats. He primarily works with watercolors, but many of his paintings make brilliant use of other artistic media such as gouache, ink, enamel, crayon and collage. Dean is also a highly respected calligrapher, designing logos and titles to compliment his paintings.

Besides his impeccable and incomparable album covers for Yes, he has also designed album covers for the rock bands, Uriah Heep, Asia, Atomic Rooster and Budgie and artists Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman.

In 1985, Dean landed a gig with Psygnosis and he has designed the artwork for several videos games, including Tetris Worlds and the redesign of the Tetris logo. In recent years, he has focused on his architectural ideas and designs. As an architectural designer, he has designed homes and sustaining villages and even designed all the aspects of his own home, from the construction techniques that were implemented to his own emotional comfort and security. The design is based on his Home For Life concept, that a house should be artistically appeasing, irenic and environmentally kind; yet cheap and quick to construct.

Rest assured that whatever project Roger Dean may be working on, it will always be innovative, inspiring, and incomparable and tackled with an obvious zest. His stylish, conceptual album cover art will live in infamy for years to come as he continues to influence new artists to this day.

As a result, Stewart, whose musical skills were still very raw, had to take a job as a grave digger.

Musical Beginnings

Stewart certainly did not want to pursue a career in manual labor, so he began to explore his musical options. He began by touring with folk singer Wizz Jones in the early 1960s, but that was not a successful run. In fact, he was kicked out of Spain during this tour for vagrancy.

Stewart then moved from band to band, including a failed stint as the first lead singer of the group that would ultimately become known as The Kinks, but again, he failed to succeed in any of these ventures. After a few more years of bouncing around, Stewart finally found a suitable band in the Jeff Beck Group, which he joined in 1968. The Jeff Beck Group released two albums, and both were successful, but the band broke up in 1969. After a few more short stints with unsuccessful bands, Stewart made a career choice - it was time to go solo.

Musical Success

This decision turned out to be a good one, as Stewart finally began to gain notice for his efforts. Although his initial album releases were not wildly successful, his live act gained notice, and Rod Stewart tickets became quite popular in the UK. The stage was set for Stewart to hit the big time.

robots.txt is possibly the most miss understood file that a website can contain.

Many people think that by using a robots.txt file on their website they are protecting pages and folders from thieves and hackers. In fact it is totally the opposite! robots.txt opens up an enormous security hole that hackers and theives will use to easily gain access to the parts of your website that you don't want them to.

What is robots.txt?

robots.txt is a file that you create and upload to your websites root directory that is used by search engine spiders to determine which parts of your website they should index and which folders/pages that you, the website owner,
don't want listed in search engine indexes.

Why would not want pages indexed?

There are many reasons why you might not want search engines to index pages on your website, such as private membership pages or exclusive training pages and such like.

If you are an internet marketer selling your own ebook or other digital product, you wouldn't want your thank you pages indexed either!

And this is where the misunderstanding comes to the fore, and robots.txt becomes your foe.

Many online marketers who provide ebooks or other digital products for instant download will list their download thank you pages in the robots.txt file because they obviously don't want those pages indexed in search engines.

By using robots.txt this way though, you will be opening up your product to anyone who has a slight bit of knowledge about how the file works.

robots.txt is easily readable by any human that opens a browser and types in and if you have listed your thank you pages, all they have to do is go to that url and take your product(s)!

It's that easy!

And I'm living proof that this works, as this is exactly what happened to me. I had listed my thank you pages in robots.txt and thought that they were safe from hackers and thieves, then one day I was checking my web site stats and BAM, someone had been to every single thank you page, and taken everything.

The moral is, don't list any URL in robots.txt that you don't want humans to have free access to. Use robots.txt with great caution and secure your thank you pages using dedicated software.
